1. Jiangsu promotes pollution control to improve rural environment
[Lead] East China’s Jiangsu Province will make unremitting efforts to promote the prevention and control of agricultural pollution from the source so as to improve the rural environment and rejuvenate the land of fish and rice.
[Voice over] Random discharge of rural domestic sewage has always been a major factor affecting the construction of beautiful villages.
[Voice over] Yangmiao Village in Huaiyin District of Huai'an City has put into use a micro-power sewage treatment facility to effectively collect and treat domestic sewage.
[Voice over] The collection and treatment of domestic sewage in Jiangsu's rural areas is very difficult, especially in the vast rural areas of Central and Northern Jiangsu, where population mobility is high and villages are scattered.
[Voice over] Constrained by the shortage of funds, Huaiyin District adopts small sewage treatment facilities to connect farmers' kitchens and toilets, which has reduced the cost of sewage pipe construction and sewage treatment while enabling the quality of the sewage water to reach the first-level B standard.
[Voice over] 120 small sewage treatment facilities have been installed in the locality since the project was put into operation, improving the rural domestic sewage treatment rate from less than 15% to 78%.
[Voice over] Huaiyin District has used the Internet of Things technology to inspect and control rural domestic sewage facilities and equipment through the mobile phone platform, eliminating the worry of high maintenance costs and realizing the long-term and stable operation of micro-power sewage treatment facilities.

We have implemented 24-hour supervision. Once a problem is discovered, the operation and maintenance worker must be on site within two hours to perform maintenance in a timely manner to ensure the normal collection and treatment of sewage in the pipeline network.
[Voice over] Jiangsu has incorporated rural domestic sewage disposal into the indexes for high quality development, rural revitalization and livelihood improvement.
[Voice over] The province will make every possible effort to ensure that 90% of the rural areas in the southern regions will have access to domestic sewage treatment facilities by 2025. The percentage rate will reach 80% for areas in the central and northern regions.
[Voice over] In rural areas, large amounts of agricultural waste can easily pollute the environment, but if handled properly, the waste can be turned into treasure.
[Voice over] The organic waste treatment center in Anguo Town, Peixian County, transports and processes 600 tons of livestock and poultry manure, 50 tons of kitchen waste and 50 tons of straw, producing 15 thousand cubic meters of bio-natural gas, 20 tons of organic fertilizer and other beneficial substances, achieving a win-win situation for both social and economic benefits.
[Voice over] According to the "14th Five-Year Plan", Jiangsu will make significant progress in the control of various pollution sources in rural areas by 2035, ensuring that by 2025, more than 93% of the arable land in the province is pollution-free, and more than 95% of straw will be comprehensively utilized.

2. Jiangsu reports steady foreign trade growth Jan.-Apr.
[Lead] East China’s Jiangsu Province reported steady foreign trade growth in the first four months of this year, thanks to the continuous recovery in international demand and stable development of the industrial chain.
[Voice over] From January to April, Jiangsu reported 1.548 trillion yuan in its import and export, a year-on-year increase of 22.5%, an increase of 16.9% over the same period in 2019, and accounting for 13.3% of China's total import and export value during the same period.
[Voice over] Jiangsu reported 957.75 billion yuan of export, an increase of 18.4% over the same period in 2019 while its imports surged to 590.81 billion yuan, an increase of 14.4% over the same period in 2019, showing that Jiangsu has resumed its routine foreign trade growth.
[Voice over] From January to April, Jiangsu's general trade import and export amounted to 862.67 billion yuan, an increase of 28.4% year-on-year with its proportion hitting 55.7% of the province's total foreign trade value.
[Voice over] From January to April, Jiangsu's imports and exports with the EU, ASEAN, the United States, South Korea, and Japan reached 235.31 billion yuan, 223.12 billion yuan, 207.49 billion yuan, 161.03 billion yuan and 140.82 billion yuan, reporting double-digit growth.
[Voice over] The import and export volume between Jiangsu and BRI countries was 393.38 billion yuan, 1.8 percentage points ahead of the province's overall foreign trade level.
[Voice over] From January to April, private enterprises in Jiangsu reported 558.32 billion yuan in import and export, 14.3 percentage points higher than the overall level of the province's foreign trade, and becoming an important source of driving force for Jiangsu's foreign trade growth.
3. Suzhou to host inaugural East Asian Entrepreneurs Taihu Forum
[Lead] The inaugural East Asian Entrepreneurs Taihu Forum will be held in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province on May 17. JSBC has the story.

5. Jiangsu reports growth momentum in digital economy in Q.1

Ordinary stores purchase goods from agents, and we purchase goods directly from platform companies. This reduces the difference between agents' profit and our retail price can be more user-friendly. The operating company gives us a lot of support such as planning by the professionals.
[Voice over] The operating company Hu Yuxia referred to is Huitongda, an e-commerce dealer in Xuanwu District of Nanjing.
[Voice over] As an e-commerce service platform, the company promotes the digital upgrade of the entire industrial chain from the factory end to the farmer end by improving the digital management capabilities and business models of small shops in towns and villages, and guides them to better adapt to changes in rural consumption trends.
[Voice over] Hu Yuxia's income from operating an electrical appliance store is more than double what she used to earn by working in big cities. Hu is not alone as there are more than 140 thousand small home appliance stores nationwide, covering 21 provinces and more than 19 thousand townships.
[Voice over] Huitongda's digital industrial layout is a case in point in the vigorous development of digital economy in Nanjing. Xuanwu District of Nanjing has given full play to the innovation capabilities of the digital economy by reporting 177 billion yuan of transaction in digital products last year.

Jiangsu promotes water conservancy construction

[Voice over] These small reservoirs, mostly built in the 1950s and 1960s, can maintain the beauty of the reservoir area after long-term use, thanks to the timely implementation of risk elimination and reinforcement work and refined long-term management and protection.
[Voice over] In recent years, Jiangsu has pioneered the refined management model of water conservancy projects to ensure the transition from traditional experience management to modern system management, thereby nipping potential safety hazards in the bud.

[Voice over] Jiangsu has registered 952 reservoirs, including 6 large-scale reservoirs, 45 medium-sized reservoirs, and 901 small-scale reservoirs.
[Voice over] In recent years, Jiangsu has strengthened the construction of reservoir infrastructure, water resources conservation and intensive utilization, water ecological governance and protection system, and reservoir operation management service system so that reservoirs of various sizes throughout the province have given full play to flood prevention and security functions and played an important role in water supply, agricultural irrigation, and serving rural revitalization.
[Voice over] As the largest reservoir in Jiangsu Province, the Shilianghe Reservoir has been subject to illegal activities such as disorderly sand mining and net aquaculture for a long time, which has affected the safe operation of the reservoir and the carrying capacity of ecological space.

Jiangsu revs up major investment project construction
[Lead] East China's Jiangsu Province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development. JSBC has the story.
[Voice over] Wujiang District of Suzhou is speeding up the construction of the Jiangling Bridge across the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. In order to combine the characteristics of Wujiang's cultural environment and inherit the culture of the canal, the Jiangling Bridge will be inspired by awning boats to create an iconic landscape with the charm of the south of the Yangtze River.
[Voice over] The Jiangling Bridge is part of the first phase of the rapid transformation of Jiangling Road. Four steel truss bridges will be erected on the canal to greatly increase the traffic capacity. The project is scheduled for opening to traffic by the end of 2023.
[Voice over] Zhenjiang has recently started construction of the Zhenjiang city section urban renovation project of 346 National Highway. The 7.48-kilometer-long project will involve a total investment of 760 million yuan.

6. Short trips recommended for New Year's Day holiday
[Lead] Disease prevention and control centers in various parts of the country have recommended short trips for the New Year's Day holiday as the country is still on alert for sporadic resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
[Voice over] In the past week, Ctrip reported a significant increase in bookings for tours around Jiangsu during the New Year's Day holiday, an increase of 92% from the previous week.
